When Wines Blossom

It is not only spring that delights us with its blossoms – wines can also enchant us with their aroma. Given that we already speak of a ‘bouquet’ when describing a wine’s aroma, it is hardly surprising that the language of wine is generally very floral. Experts use these images to describe wines vividly and accurately. This is exactly what our newest partner does: the Winebutler.

The Winebutler is a digital sommelier that provides expert answers to specialist questions in a matter of seconds. For the wine exchange, ‘Vino’ – as we call it internally – has created concise summaries for numerous auction wines. Because whilst scores are a helpful measure, sometimes it takes the right words for a wine to truly blossom in the glass (and in the mind).

The system draws on over 100,000 professional notes from renowned experts such as René Gabriel, Jürg Richter, André Kunz and Adrian van Velsen.

Be inspired and pick your bouquet from the spring selection!

Special features of the auction:

Winebutler.info: Winebutler’s user platform has been publicly available since the end of 2025 and is constantly being developed. Private users can access Winebutler free of charge – for example, to select wines to accompany a meal or to quickly find their way around regions, grape varieties and producers.

Winebutler’s roots lie in the decades of tasting work carried out by wine writer René Gabriel, whose notes were initially published in books and on the platform bxtotal.com. This was discontinued in spring 2026 for reasons of age and system limitations; with Winebutler, the next generation (Stefan Gabriel) is now carrying on this knowledge and making it available in a new form.

For the auction, Winebutler generates concise summaries of the collected tasting notes – for the first time and exclusively for the Weinbörse!

If Vino, the Winebutler, cannot find any specific tasting notes, he occasionally supplements the information using OpenAI’s (ChatGPT) ever-expanding general knowledge of wine.

Perfectly stored wines from the Old Swiss House: Philipp Buholzer and his team have handed over the renowned Old Swiss House restaurant in Lucerne to a younger generation of successors. Part of the legendary wine cellar, which his father had originally established, is now being auctioned off.

We were able to see for ourselves on site the meticulous care with which the purchase of the wines had been thoroughly documented. The vast majority of the wines have been stored in the professional wine cellar since their release – with vintages dating back as far as the 1960s!

To allow us to see for ourselves the ideal storage conditions, Philipp has generously made a whole range of mature wines available for tasting. The entire board of directors of Gerstl Weinselektionen and the Weinbörse team tasted and assessed these together. You will find details of the relevant wines and our assessment in the lot descriptions. All the wines tasted scored at least ‘very good’ and impressed with their excellent drinking pleasure!

Small but perfect: Half-bottles are rarely found at auctions. Yet they are sometimes just the thing when you fancy a sip of fine wine but don’t want to open a whole bottle. Demand for 3/8-litre bottles is generally higher than supply. We are delighted to be able to offer you a very wide selection of half-bottles from various origins, all at their peak drinking maturity, in our current auction!

Classics: As always, the big names from Burgundy are well represented: from Leflaive and Bachelet through to DRC, Rouget, Lamarche, Groffier and Rousseau. In Bordeaux, the selection of Premier Crus is particularly extensive, and there is also a rare Duclot case on offer. But there are also plenty of ready-to-drink, great-value wines available.

Germany and Austria: Thanks to our excellent connections, we have managed to source a veritable treasure trove of Rieslings and Gruner Veltliners. The liquidation of a renowned wine merchant, combined with access to a magnificent private cellar, has provided us with a wonderful variety of wines at every stage of maturity: whether you wish to lay them down or enjoy them straight away – there is guaranteed to be something for every occasion!

Also included is one of the most legendary German wines, which is listed practically every year among the top ten most expensive white wines in the world: the Scharzhofberger Trockenbeerenauslese Gold Capsule from Egon Müller!

Overseas: a wonderful selection of prestigious wines awaits you! 10 lots of Sine Qua Non are available, 11 lots of Opus One, plus Ridge and other gems such as D.R. Stephens. A vertical of 14 lots of Penfolds Grange, as well as Hill of Grace and various vintages of Clarendon Hills, are on offer.
